I’m trying to figure out how to insert blank lines into my blog posts. This is just a test to see if I can do it.

The First Week

I keep trying to say how I felt about the first week at Baylor Law School, and it all just comes out too mushy. So I’ll just say this: It feels like coming home. I feel at home in the material that I’m studying. No, that doesn’t mean that I’m going to become some ambulance chaser or mass tort lawyer, it means that I feel like my mind works in a similar manner that the material that I’m studying does. While it takes time to learn how to read the cases (and sometimes the language), I feel like I am grasping what the opinions are saying, the points that are being made. Regardless of whether or not I actually am getting it, I love it.

I won’t go into the details of each class, but I have Torts, Contracts, Civil Procedure, Intro to Law & the Legal Profession, and “LARC,” which is Legal Analysis, Research, and Communications. I’m familiar, at least somewhat, with Torts & Contracts; LARC is about writing and research. Then there’s Civil Procedure. This class is rapidly becoming my favorite, because it is the most unfamiliar to me. It is a sort of “language” that is only spoken by lawyers, the set of rules that govern the processes of the court system. For me, it’s been like putting together the pieces of a puzzle, understanding how everything fits together and what to expect going forward. It definitely is the roughest, though. The professor for the class (Professor CivPro, since I don’t think I’m allowed to use his real name) has a reputation for brutality, but has been, in my opinion, pretty fair thus far. I suppose we’ll see how it shapes up from here on out, though. I’ll have stories to tell, no doubt.
