RIP, Waco Hippodrome

I emerge from the fog ever so briefly to share sad news. The Waco Hippodrome is closing its doors indefinitely. For those who don’t know, Baylor alum and former Wacoan of the Year Scott Baker (no relation to the other person of Waco infamy bearing that last name) turned it around, making it a fine place to see some theater in Waco for several years. Baker had moved on (to Nashville, I believe), and apparently the Hippodrome did too.

Some details.

The closing of the Hippo is a sad thing. I have attended a number of movies there and enjoyed the experience. Most recently I attended the Waco produced “Risen” zombie movie. Loved it. The problem is, the Hippo could have survived if it had just been properly managed. There’s a reason Mr. Baker is no longer in the State of Texas. People are looking for the money he owes them.
