It’s August, For Crying Out Loud!

Yesterday, we drove through the Eisenhower tunnel and over Vail pass to reach Vail, our final destination for the next week. Jeeping, hiking, and mountain biking are the plans for the week. But, as we drove through the tunnel near Loveland ski area, this is what our outside temperature read as:

Temperatures got as low as 36 degrees!

Temperatures got as low as 36 degrees!

The gauge reads at 39º, but it got as low as 36 just before the tunnel. It rained nearly the entire time we were driving in Colorado, coming up I-25 from Trinidad to Denver, then up I-70 towards Vail. It turned freezing near the Eisenhower Tunnel, then became snow right before heading into the tunnel.

Snow in August? Are you kidding me? Thankfully, it’s supposed to clear up tomorrow, and we’ll be able to get on with our outdoor adventures. In the meantime, I think we might do some shopping today, and pick up some warmer clothes, since we didn’t really bring much (hey, it’s August!).

At any rate, it’s great to be back in the mountains.
